We often don’t notice the people who keep our neighbourhoods clean, but their work makes the ordinary ease of everyday life possible.
Day after day, our conservancy workers care for our estates, putting in the work behind the scenes to maintain the peace and comfort we sometimes take for granted.
When a group of NTU students approached Sengkang Town Council to document this unseen labour, we were glad to support them. What started as a school project became something far more meaningful.
Through the lens of Darren, a simple but powerful story emerged of Anis, a conservancy worker, and the Sengkang community that knows him, greets him, and treats him as one of their own.
“We saw how well-integrated he was within the community… residents would greet him, and one even stopped to share a photo of her grandson overseas. It was heartening to see them sharing these small, personal moments.” - Darren Ang, Year 1 student from NTU’s WKWSCI.
We’re grateful to have so many dedicated conservancy workers like Anis in our community, and we’re glad to share Darren’s work with you.
